About us

Situated on Montreal’s West Island, The Dollard Centre for the Arts grew out of summer camp and art programs and art classes that originated with Dollard-des-Ormeaux’s Recreation Department in the 1960’s. Incorporated as a non profit association in 1980 it was originally named Dollard Recreart and offered programs and art classes in several of the municipal chalets and the one art studio located beside the arena changing rooms. Galerie de la Ville began life in the lobby of the Dollard Town Hall.

With the completion of the library building in 1992 the DCA studios and Galerie de la Ville moved into their present location in the Dollard Cultural Centre. With two well-equipped art studios, two music/activity rooms and access to more multi-purpose rooms, many more art classes for adults and children were added in the visual arts, theatre, music and dance and our Summer Fine Arts Camp expanded considerably serving families on The West Island which includes summer art classes for children as part of it’s program.

In 1991 The Artists Association of Dollard was founded under the auspices of The Dollard Centre for the Arts to bring together local artists for regular lectures, demonstrations and exhibitions. Their fall exhibition is a part of our popular Weekend of Crafts and Fine Art that takes place each November. This vibrant craft fair has been held for over forty years showcasing the original creations of over eighty West Island, Montreal and Quebec artisans.

Under the guidance of the dedicated volunteers on our Executive board, our creative, committed staff and our talented, professional teachers, The Dollard Centre for the Arts has continued to provide the residents of Dollard-des-Ormeaux and the West Island region with exciting and innovative cultural programs and art classes.

We are proud of the many students: children, teens and adults; and staff members who have been inspired by their exposure to the arts in our programs and art classes and have gone on to success in the visual arts, film, music and careers in cultural institutions and all who everyday have a deeper appreciation for the value of the arts in their life.
